I'm sure I'm not the only one with the occasional doubt about the legitimacy of a tummy ache. Not because I think it's made up, but because sometimes pushing through the day will make them forget about whatever caused the tummy ache in the first place.
That being said, the last time Miss E told me her tummy hurt in the pitiful voice, I acknowledged it and we kept on truckin. We had stuff to do, and I had to work. Besides, most tummy aches resolve themselves, right? You may be able to predict at this point what I could not on that day, although I am relieved to say that Miss E is at an age now that she can usually get to some sort of receptacle in time to throw up.
Fast forward to today when I was called by the school to come get Miss E for a tummy ache. The first call was more of an information-gathering call, at which point I authorized an antacid. After all, if it is nerves, sometimes a placebo will still help. The second call was met with the pitiful voice, so I picked her up and took her with me to my appointment.
Is it possible that she just wanted to leave early? Sure.
Is it also possible that she will throw up soon? Yep.
As parents, we are not going to get it right every time and have to let ourselves off the hook if we choose wrong. We may also need some bleach if we choose wrong, so I'm an 'err on the side of caution' kind of mom!
Fingers crossed for an uneventful evening for us all.
