JC and I have become quite accustomed to speaking to hospital billing departments, insurance companies and drug companies. Each infusion that Miss E gets costs over $6000 and she has been getting them every two weeks for the past several years. We are blessed to have insurance that offsets the majority of that cost, but we are still left with exorbitant bills.
Crippling bills have been part of our lives for so long, that the panic I used to feel at the sight of the envelope is no longer even a fleeting thought. I typically look a bill over to ensure that there are no erroneous charges and then set it aside to address when we pay monthly bills.
Imagine my surprise when I opened a bill for a recent test at the hospital and the total due was...drum roll, please...$2.22. I have never been so thrilled to write a check!
Here's to hoping the next bill is just as small.
